Plantation Pointe is located
20 miles from the states Capital City, Columbia. Newberry
which is one the
states oldest and most historical cities is only 15 miles
from Plantation Pointe. Both Columbia and
Newberry boasts exciting attractions offering entertaining
and unique experiences.
Columbia
- is one of the first
planned communities in this country, Columbia was established
in 1786 as a centrally located state capital.
History and Culture
- Columbia has a great number of historical
homes and churches. Columbia is also the home to many impressive
museums and exhibits.
Universities and
Colleges - Columbia has
four major schools available for anyone interested in continuing
there educational goals. The University of South Carolina chartered
in 1801 still remains on its original site
in Columbia. The campus has grown from its origins of one building
on the historic Horseshoe to 156
facilities on 351 acres. The university offers more than 350 undergraduate
and graduate courses of study.
The three other major schools are Southern Wesleyan University,
Columbia College and Midlands Tech.
Shopping

- from the quaint village atmosphere to the large shopping malls.
Columbia's shopping opportunities include malls, specialty stores,
discount stores, flea markets, and special shopping districts
such as Five Points and the Congaree Vista. Columbia four major
shopping malls are Columbiana Centre with more than a 100 stores,
Columbia Mall with over a 100 stores, Richland Mall with over
60 stores and Dutch Square Mall with over 40 stores. Columbia
has 100's of antique stores that offer fine pieces at reasonable
prices.

Newberry
- Settled in the 1740's and 1750's, Newberry
was home to many German, English and
Scots-Irish immigrants, though Quakers and other settlers also
came to the area. Beautiful homes and
gardens line the streets of the large historic district. Newberry
is also the home of Newberry College, a
Lutheran-supported liberal arts school, was founded in 1856. The
opening of the newly restored Newberry
Opera House (circa 1882), offering a wide variety of performances,
has brought fine restaurants and
unique shops to the historic district. Carter and Holmes Orchid
Greenhouse, in Newberry, is the third
largest orchid nursery in the nation. Today, the mild climate
and productive farmland make it a good
location for agriculture and forestry, while a progressive attitude
for economic development is attractive to
industries.
